Acne is a very common skin disease that can affect all kinds of individuals, from puberty to adulthood. Despite its “common” aspect, acne is not easily treatable and requires specific medical drug uses, that can induce secondary effects. They do often result in unaesthetic and embarrassing scars that Laser techniques can now dramatically minimize.
Causes of acne are the base of the hair, in the hair follicle area. Three main factors induce this initial acne lesion:
Excessive secretion of sebum (oily, greasy skin)
A hair follicle obstruction
Irritation and bacteria inflammation within the follicle.
Following this reduction of acne skin lesion, some scars can remain.
Progressive / Persistent acne commonly justifies the use of a pharmaceutical treatment. In some cases, a 1450 nm Diode Laser or Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) treatment can be efficient. Laser treatments are most of the time dedicated to treating secondary acne scars, generally being atrophic scars.
For this reason the CLIPP is equipped with differents laser technologies (Ablative and non-ablative fractional lasers in particular, Pulsed Dye Lasers, to selectively reshape specific skin areas) allowing us to have the best results in scar treatments.
There are numerous types of scars: hyper-pigmented or hypo-pigmented scars, atrophic (with a recessed shape, a very common skin alteration post Acne), hypertrophic or erythematous (with a pink, reddish shape).
Being equipped with specific and dedicated Lasers, we can give a very efficient and secured response to most of these situations, allowing our patients to observe durable and profound change in terms of texture, shape, colour and softening of their scars.
Both scars and acne-linked scars can induce a significant discomfort, and this is even more obvious with adults. Today, there are some significant and revolutionary Laser alternatives, with no severe pain (it can be associated with the use of an anesthesic cream) nor risks, that can significantly resurface the skin, remove shallow acne scars and greatly enhance those deeper acne scars.
At the CLIPP in Paris, our dermatologists are very familiar to the use of these techniques since many years. Still, a medical consultation is necessary in order to establish a treatment protocol with the patient.
